Sealing hub · Concrete, pavers, stone, wood
Concrete driveways and patios, interlock pavers, flagstone and natural stone, brick facades and retaining walls, wood decks and fences, garage floors. The right sealer is the one matched to substrate, exposure and finish — penetrating, film-forming or reactive. We choose, you sign off, surface gets sealed once it is fully cleaned and dry. Most Calgary sealing jobs land between $400 and $1,500 depending on substrate and area.
Why the sealer choice decides everything
Sealing is not one product, it is a category of three. Penetrating sealers (silane and siloxane) soak into the substrate body and repel water from the inside without changing how the surface looks or feels. Film-forming sealers (acrylic, urethane) sit on top of the substrate as a clear or coloured film, add gloss or matte finish, and look great on covered patios where slip is not a winter concern. Reactive sealers (lithium silicate, sodium silicate) chemically bond with the substrate and densify the surface, used on garage floors and warehouse slabs where impact and chemical resistance matter more than aesthetics. The right pick depends on three things — substrate (concrete, paver, stone, brick, wood), exposure (outdoor freeze-thaw vs. indoor controlled), and finish (matte for slip resistance, gloss for colour pop). For most Calgary outdoor flatwork the answer is penetrating with a satin finish. We pair sealing with driveway cleaning when the slab is the priority, with paver sealing for the full clean-sand-seal sequence on interlock or with concrete cleaning when multiple property slabs are due.
How a Calgary seal job runs
Walk the surface, test absorption with a water-bead test (penetrating only goes onto absorbent substrate), confirm any existing sealer with a solvent rub, pick the matched product for substrate plus exposure plus finish.
Surface cleaner pass (or chemical clean on stamped/coloured concrete) to remove every contaminant, then 24-72 hours for the substrate to dry fully. Sealer will not bond through moisture trapped in the substrate.
Roller, sprayer or brush depending on substrate and product. Two thin coats usually beats one thick coat — better penetration, better film build, better appearance. Coverage rate confirmed against the product spec sheet.
Surface cures over 24-72 hours depending on chemistry. We walk it with you once cured to confirm uniform finish and explain the maintenance cycle. Invoice covers the prep, the product and the labour, all in one number.
Calgary sealing realities
Calgary surfaces wear sealers faster than calmer-climate cities. Chinook freeze-thaw cycles work water and salt through any film that has hairline gaps, road salt accelerates the chemistry breakdown, and the prairie sun bakes acrylic film-formers faster than coastal sun does. The realistic sealer cycle in Calgary is three to five years for penetrating, two to three for film-forming, and one major maintenance wash plus a top-up coat in between full re-seals. The sealing service is a stand-alone hub for every substrate, but the real value is bundling sealing with the wash that has to happen first. Pair with driveway cleaning, paver sealing, concrete cleaning, deck cleaning or brick cleaning depending on substrate — the sealer goes on once the clean is done and the surface has fully dried.
Pair sealing with the wash that precedes it
Sealing only works on a fully clean and dry substrate. Pair the sealer with the wash that gets you there.

Calgary sealing services reviews
Penetrating sealer on a five-year-old driveway after the surface cleaner pass. Hartford explained why penetrating beat film-forming for the freeze-thaw climate. Three years later, the salt is still beading off the slab.
Old film-forming acrylic on the stamped concrete patio had gone patchy. The crew stripped the failed sealer, deep-cleaned and re-sealed with a satin film-former. Colour came back and the patio looks like the install year.
Garage floor epoxy followed by polyaspartic top coat. The crew prepped the slab properly — diamond grinding, full dry — before any chemistry. Floor has held up to two winters of vehicle traffic with no chipping.
Vapour-permeable sealer on a brick retaining wall. They specifically warned against the wrong sealer that would trap moisture inside the wall. Honest technical explanation, the wall is dry and the colour is locked.
