Calgary patio cleaning around fire pits, BBQs and outdoor furniture

Concrete, stamped, flagstone and interlock patios cleaned without moving you to the front yard. Furniture moved and replaced, fire pits pre-treated for soot, BBQ surrounds tarped, plants pre-wet. Most Calgary patio-only jobs land between $200 and $500 depending on square footage and substrate.

Why patios need their own approach

Furniture, fire pits and BBQs are the work — the slab is the easy part

A driveway is open concrete. A patio is a living space with eight to twelve different things that have to be moved, tarped or worked around. The actual slab clean is fast — twenty minutes with the surface cleaner. The prep before the clean is where the time goes — light furniture to one side, fire pit pre-treated for soot, BBQ surround tarped, planters lifted off, drop-cloths over the perennial beds, plants pre-wet so the chemistry runoff does not stress them. For mixed surfaces — flagstone patios with concrete walkways into them, interlock around the fire pit ringing poured concrete elsewhere — the wash sequence is planned at the visit so the right chemistry hits the right substrate. Pair patio cleaning with deck cleaning when the deck overhangs the patio so the rinse residue lands on the patio surface and gets cleaned in the same visit, or with paver sealing when the patio is interlock and ready for a sealer pass.

How a Calgary patio clean runs

Four steps from furniture move to dry slab

  1. Furniture and pre-treat

Light furniture moved to one half of the patio, heavy furniture tarped if it cannot be moved, fire pit pre-treated for soot, BBQ surround tarped, plant beds pre-wet, drop-cloths placed on perimeter perennials.

  2. Surface cleaner pass

Substrate-matched surface cleaner on concrete, careful wand at stamped sections, soap-and-rinse on flagstone if the stone is unsealed. Direction follows the slope so water moves toward the drain or the lawn line.

  3. Swap and clean the second half

Furniture moved to the cleaned half once that side dries enough to walk on, second half cleaned the same way. Fire pit and BBQ surround surfaces hand-detailed at the edges.

  4. Re-set, walkaround, invoice

Furniture returned to original placement, tarps lifted, walkaround with you to confirm every section is uniform and the heaters and BBQ surrounds were untouched. Invoice matches the quote.

Calgary patio realities

Fire pit soot, BBQ grease and the spring snowmelt pooling problem

Calgary patios collect three specific stain types most homeowners do not deal with on the driveway. Fire pit soot rings the surrounding slab and stains the concrete within six feet of the pit; the right treatment is a degreaser-plus-soak before the surface cleaner pass. BBQ grease drops on the slab under the grill and bakes in at every cook session; ground-in grease needs a hot rinse on a follow-up pass. Spring snowmelt pools in low spots on poured patios and leaves a tideline residue where the water sat for weeks. Annual patio cleaning in late May or early June catches all three before patio season starts. Pair with the deck wash when both are due (deck first if it overhangs the patio), with driveway cleaning if the property gets a full flatwork pass, or with sealing services for the penetrating sealer that locks the colour in and sheds next year's stains.

Patio cleaning questions

Calgary patio cleaning, answered

Five questions that come up on most patio-only quotes.

Patios are the back-yard living space, which means the work has to fit around outdoor furniture, fire pits, BBQs, planters and pets. The wash technique is the same surface cleaner pass at matched PSI, but the prep takes longer because we move and replace your things and protect the surrounding garden beds. Driveway and concrete cleaning is open flatwork that lets the crew move straight through.
Yes, with the right prep. Light furniture (chairs, side tables, planters) is moved to one half of the patio while we wash the other half, then swapped. Heavy furniture (sectionals, dining tables) is covered with drop-cloths if it cannot be moved. Fire pits get a soot pre-treatment and an extra dwell pass. We cost the move-and-replace work into the quote so there are no surprises.
Stamped and coloured concrete patios have a sealer on top that protects the colour, and the sealer is what reacts to pressure. We test the existing sealer first — gentle chemical clean if it is still intact, light surface cleaner only if it has worn off. If the colour has gone patchy and the sealer is failing, the right plan is a chemical clean now and a re-seal once the slab dries; we will quote both.
We do not aim the wash at any electrical appliances, gas lines or BBQ surrounds — those are covered with weatherproof tarps if they cannot be moved. Patio heaters with exposed propane connections are tarped at the base. Built-in BBQ surrounds (stone or stainless) are tarped at the firebox and the controls. The slab beneath them is cleaned by hand at the edges.
Depends on layout. If the deck overhangs the patio, do the deck first so the wash residue falls onto the patio and gets rinsed away with the patio clean. If they are side-by-side at the same grade, do them in parallel and finish with a full rinse. We will sequence the visit at the quote so the order works for your specific back yard.

Stamped concrete patio with a fire pit ring of soot. Hartford tested the sealer, pre-treated the soot ring and cleaned without lifting the colour. We did the re-seal three weeks later. Patio looks like the day it was poured.

Sectional couch on the back patio I could not move. They tarped it carefully, did the surrounding slab first, then carefully cleaned underneath where the legs were when they swapped the couch over. Considerate work.

Flagstone patio with concrete walkways into it. Crew matched the chemistry to each substrate, tarped the propane heater, no damage to the gas line. The colour difference between the two stone types came back to original.

Built-in stainless BBQ surround on the deck-level patio. They tarped the firebox and the controls, cleaned the slab at the edges by hand. No stainless damage, no electronics issues. Bundled the patio with the deck wash and the price was right.
